Meditation is about connecting with the self through breathwork and mindful concentration.
Meditation
Several studies have been done on the benefits of meditation for the body. The one most people have heard of is decreasing stress in the body. But let’s talk about how that works.
When we are seated, lying down, or whatever position is most comfortable for the body with our eyes closed, focusing on our breath, the little stream of thoughts in our head decreases making it easier for our body to come into a tranquil state of being. Not only does this destress the body but it can reduce the anxiety we feel in stressful situations, as well as help us form techniques to use outside of a meditative state when placed in stressful situations.
Now let’s take a look at the physical benefits of being less stressed can have on the body. Sleep improves, lowers blood pressure, can decrease pain in the body, reduces headaches, IBS/IBD decrease, etc. The benefits are endless; when we decrease stress, it allows the nervous system to regulate which can in turn benefit the entire body.
